  • A Small Box

  • I carefully picked up the small box and looked inside it.
  • It was empty as far as I could see through this little hole in the bottom.
    • However, it was heavy and what made it even more interesting was that every time I shook the box it made a sound.
    • It was not the regular one - the object hitting the box’s walls.
    • The sound was more of a squeaking noise.
    • Like an animal squeaking.
  • I already had a lot of ideas, like that there was an insect inside the box.
    • I threw that idea away as soon as I thought about it because there are at least two reasons why it cannot be the insect or any other living creature, for instance.
    • It could not survive this long and there is probably no insect which makes squeaky noises.
    • Or what if it was the answer.
  • This box contained a new species which could live for hundreds of years and make such noises.
    • That sounded really strange even to me.
    • On the other hand, what else might be inside this box that makes it worth it to keep in the family for twenty five generations.
  • Yes, that’s right, this small wooden box was kept in my family, like it was some kind of treasure.
  • Maybe it was, but then again who knew?
    • Only my great grand relative who made this strange tradition of passing down the box from the parents to their child.
    • That was really interesting actually and many of my aunts and uncles wanted this box so badly that my great grandmother needed to be involved in this decision of who is going to finally open this thing and see what’s inside.
    • You see, my generation was the twenty fifth in my family, and the first child of this generation must open this box when he or she will turn sixteen years old.
    • So there were two options of who could have had this role: me or my cousin.
    • Because their family thinks that whatever is in this box, will make the person so rich they could have never dreamt of, they have fought till the end, stating that my cousin Anne is older than me, so she shall have the “honor of opening The Box” as they called it.
    • But one minute made the difference and that is why I am going to open this stupid box.
  • The funny thing is that nobody has opened it yet and there is no reason for that.
  • There is only a lock that as told in the family can be opened only by the person who lives in this time.
  • Well, there are a lot of things you can talk about forever and I believe it is one of them.
    • At some point it is unexplainable, from the other, I am not sure if the person who thought of this lock knew what was going to happen in the future, specifically mine, which was going to make it so special.
    • So after trying to open this box by the way it was supposed to be open, I finally did it.
  • And it took me only two hours!
  • I took a deep breath and opened the box.
