  • Should songs with violent lyrics/topics be banned?

    • Nowadays, we are living in the era of the hypersexualizing, romanticization of criminality and drug trafficking, which is seen as a symbol of power and status in some communities.
    • At the same time, that is a serious and dangerous issue in societies like ours where there is a majority of children and teenagers in our population, who are easily impressionable.
    • For that and other more reasons, I’ll tell you in the next paragraph if and why should songs with violent lyrics and topics should be banned.
    • First of all, I know that this happens in ALL COUNTRIES, well, most of them, right?
    • But in this case I’ll talk about mine, Chile, because it is the reality that I know better.
  • Topics like this are common in Hip Hop, Trap, and Reggaeton.
    • (Also Brazilian Funk, but there are not many famous songs in my country and people here actually don’t listen to that, so I’ll omit it).
    • At the moment, EVERYONE has access to Internet, so, it’s easy to be logged in apps like Tik Tok, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, etc etc etc. On those social media apps is where songs and videos are quickly widespread so anybody can see it and share it multiplied times.
    • Here we realize that there is no real age restriction for content visualizing, and with this I want to say that, kids and teenagers just click on the like button without being (in most of the cases) actually conscious of what they watch.
    • The problem in Chilean society and system, is the education we have received, we have to change it, and make that the other generations are taught under a feminist, anti-patriarchy perspective, with awareness of and power on our bodies, to stop and decrease rapes, sexual abuse, grooming, pedophilia, inter alia.
    • Back to the main topic, the virality of Marcianeke, Standly, Pailita, El Jordan 23, and thousands of other singers and songs of Chilean Reggaeton has provoked a phenomenon of normalization of behaviors like confrontation and violence, killing, unfaithfulness in relationships, relationships based in sexual satisfaction, drug addiction and bohemian life, among other topics that we have to eradicate.
    • Along with the previously mentioned, I think that DEFINITELY this type of songs and other ones that talk about femicide, necro and other paraphilias, in other musical genres should be banned, but NOW.
