- The present study presents the following questioning axis: How are the social representations experienced by male professionals about their profession?
- Thus, this study aims to analyze how the social representations experienced by male professionals about their profession are configured.
- And as specific objectives, to understand the relationships of pleasure and suffering experienced by the boys in the program and to identify how professional activity influences the personal daily lives of male professionals.
- This is a descriptive, exploratory case study with a qualitative approach, with 35 program boys, who were recruited through the non-probabilistic sampling method called snowball.
- Data were collected between December 2020 and March 2021, through video or audio-recorded interviews, guided by a semi-structured script.
- Data analysis took place through Laurence Bardin’s Thematic Content Analysis.
- Aspects related to motivation, insertion and perspectives in male prostitution were taken, as well as the duality between pleasure and suffering experienced by the male escorts.
- The present study showed that the social representations experienced were based on pleasure in exercising the profession due to the financial return obtained, but at the same time marked by sadness due to the need for professional secrecy, stress, anxiety, loneliness, fear, exclusion and social disrespect.
