Celie at the beginning of the story is told how she lives from a childhood torn by both physical and psychological abuse from her father, Pa did not want to give Nettie to marry or which gives Celie to marry Mr. He only marries her to take care of his children, do chores and work, Celie when she marries Mr. brings her sister to the house to live with her, but only until Mr. kicks her out of the house she promises to write Letters, but she never hears from her sister again.

At first Shug looks at her as ’little’ but throughout the story they become closer.

Sofia also gives a twist to his story because Harpo, when he married Sofia, thought that she would be the same as Celie, submissive and hardworking at home, but Sofia is not like he thought, she is strong and never gets carried away.

Celie believed that her sister had died because she did not know anything about her until she discovered that Mr. Le hid her sister’s letters and that she was a missionary assistant in Africa with Samuel.

Pa dies and it is revealed that Pa’s house belongs to Celie and Nettie, Celie is rebuilt with a new house and begins to be an independent woman without fears or mandates with Shug after leaving Mr. No hard feelings and she knew how to forgive him for everything he had done to her.

After years Nettie returns from Africa with Samuel and the children to meet her sister Celie, finally the reunion of the sisters takes place and Celie can meet her children and the wife of her son.

Finally she makes her last letter to God thanking Him for bringing her sister, the women who came into her life and the people who form her family
