  • Essay 1

  • Personally, I think that it is more important for students to understand ideas and concepts than to learn facts.
    • First of all, it is impossible to learn everything, because there are too many facts and details in each field of studies.
  • Learning all of them is impossible.
  • I remember a girl from my class who used to try to remember every single detail from textbooks.
  • She was nervous, she cried a lot, because she was not able to do it – after all, we are not robots!
    • That is why my university professors never bothered us with learning all the details, dates, names and so on.
    • They wanted us to understand the ideas, to express our opinion, to make science-based predictions.
    • Secondly, there is no point in learning every single detail by heart, because nowadays everything can be found in the Internet.
    • Moreover, the computer is much faster than our brain, and it does not make any mistakes.
    • For example, when it comes to numbers, a calculator will always be more accurate and reliable, than a human being.
    • However, the artificial intelligence cannot produce original ideas and concepts.
  • A good scientist cannot be replaced by a computer.
    • Thirdly, if you understand ideas and concepts, it means that you can apply your knowledge in different fields of studies.
    • For example, if you learn the date of, for example, Russian Revolution, you will just know a single fact.
    • But if you understand the reasons of revolutions, if you can say, which events can lead to it, then you start to think like a real scientist.
    • This kind of knowledge can be applied in History, Sociology, Political Science and so on.
    • To sum up, I would like to say that there is no point in meaningless learning.
    • Students should understand the material, not learn it, like a poem.
