  • MAGLEV Transportation

  • Maglev is a system of train transportation, derived from magnetic levitation because it uses two sets of magnets.
    • Firstly, a set of magnet repels and pushes the train up off the track as in levitation.
    • Secondly, another set enables to move the floating train at high speed taking advantage of no friction.
    • That technology doesn’t use moving parts.
  • The train travels along a guideway of magnets which control the train's stability and speed.
    • Therefore, Maglev trains are quieter and softer.
    • As the result, the system enables to have much bigger speed than conventional trains and it makes the world’s faster train than ever.
    • In addition, levitation doesn’t need a large energy consumption even with a high speed system, that it seems be an environmentally friendly project.
    • Magelv operates thanks to EMS (ElectroMagnetic Suspension) systems.
    • In fact, the train levitates above a steel rail while electromagnets, attached to the train, are oriented toward the rail below the train.
    • It is arranged on C-shaped arms, with two portions: the upper portion attached to the vehicle, and the lower inside edge containing the magnets.
  • The system is made by one rail situated inside the C, between the upper and lower edges.
    • Maglev vehicles hold the speed record for trains because the trains can accelerate and decelerate much faster than today’s trains.
  • A train can reach 350 km/h in 2 minutes.
  • The maximum normal operation speed is 431 km/h.
    • That way, it is a challenge for the builders to preserve safety and comfort of all the passengers.
    • Due to its cost very expensive, some projects were abandoned particularly in Australia and Germany.
    • If you wanted to try to this experience today, you would get on a Maglev train only in East Asia (China, Japan and South Korea) where that technology is the most expanded.
    • The faster train is the Transrapid in Shanghai.
    • The journey takes only 7 minutes and 20 seconds to complete the distance of 30 km at full speed.
    • Additionally, Japan aims at developing train always faster with SCMaglev, operated in 2027.
    • In a nutshell, Maglev is so fascinating because these trains travel above tracks and rest on air.
    • When you are on board, you feel floated.
    • You see the landscapes scroll rapidly, this experience is really a breathtaking.
