The Childhood of Robinson Crusoe
- My name is Robinson Crusoe.
- I was born in the old city of York.
- Where there is a broad river with ships coming and going down.
- All my freetime I spent there, looking for a qiuet stream.
- How pleasant it was!
- I watched for coming ships with big beautiful sails spread to the wind.
- I liked to think about distant lands that they have visited and many interesting things that they have passed.
- These thoughts always agitated my mind.
- "I wish to be a sailor!" I said to myself.
- It must be grand - sail on boundless bue sea, when the sky above and waves behind the ship.
- My father wanted me to stay in the York.
- He wanted to teach me a handcraft.
- But I am not going to stay here.
- The thought that I would have to spend all my life in the old dusty room is killing me.
- I wish to see the world!
- I wish to be a sailor and nothing else!
- My mother was very sad.
- She told me that sailor's life is a hard life.
- "You did not earn anything and frequent storms at sea breaking ships and ruining people.
- How much safer it is to be at home!" she told to myself and kissing me.
- But nothing could scare me.
- I wish to be a sailor and nothing can stop me.
- When I was eighteen years old I start work as a captain's pupil on a trading ship.
- It was my first voyage!
