Inspired by poetry
- I would like to tell about my acquaintance with an amazing irish poet William Butler Yeats.
- In the process of learning english I often listen to audiobooks and poems read by different actors and famous people.
- One of the first poems I stumbled upon was "When you are old" read by Cillian Murphy and Tom Hiddleston.
- I thought it was a nice poem and I used it for learning english but nothing more.
- Then a couple of years later I watched an american movie "Equilibrium" with Christian Bale and Sean Bean.
- In the film there was a book with Yeats' poems they wanted to burn.
- Sean Bean's character was amazed by this lines "Tread softly because you tread on my dreams".
- He died for the book.
- That was my second meeting with the poet.
- I always liked Ireland very much and I met a good penpal friend from Galway.
- I asked him whether he could recommend some verses to learn to improve my english.
- Obviously he mentioned Yeats.
- So this time it was enough for me finally to pay attention.
- I learnt two very nice poems and now I concider him as my favourite poet.
- I think his works bring me to Ireland and make me closer to the place, that is marvelous.
- I went out to the hazel wood, Because a fire was in my head, And cut and peeled a hazel wand, And hooked a berry to a thread; And when white moths were on the wing, And moth-like stars were flickering out, I dropped the berry in a stream And caught a little silver trout.
- When I had laid it on the floor I went to blow the fire a-flame, But something rustled on the floor, And someone called me by my name: It had become a glimmering girl With apple blossom in her hair Who called me by my name and ran And faded through the brightening air.
- Though I am old with wandering Through hollow lands and hilly lands, I will find out where she has gone, And kiss her lips and take her hands; And walk among long dappled grass, And pluck till time and times are done, The silver apples of the moon, The golden apples of the sun.
