The birth of suffragettes
- The suffragettes were highly educated women who fought for their voting rights .
- As you know in the Edwardian age ( that is to say theperiod of King Edward's reign) only men were allowed to vote and the english government ignored completely their demands until 1903 with the foundation of Women's Social Political Union (WSPU).
- Thanks to this foundation they could spread their ideas and organize mass marches.
- But the government did nothing about it and that puch the suffragettes to use more radical actions for examples smash ministries windows or attacking MPs agents and hunger strikes .
- By the summer of 1914 women became a great reference to win the Great War because they worked in usefuland important fields .
- That's why on 6th February 1918 the government decided to approve women's voting rights.
