Today, the social networks are omnipresent in our life.

Now we can talk and share our life with everybody, find a childhood friend or even love in three clicks ! with no surprise the largest consumers of the social network are the teenagers.

Indeed, according to surveys, more than nine in ten teenagers are registered on a social network.

But is the social network not dangerous for these young people ?

Our redaction’s team has investigated… We interviewed Lucy, a high school student of 16 years addicted to Facebook and Instagram.

“-how many hours a day do you spend on facebook and instagram ?

-between five to six hours a day.

-when do you go on social network ?

- On the morning in the school bus, at midday in the self, at home and even during the class not to miss any message or photo.

- could you live without internet during a week for example ?

-No, I can’t imagine it.

“ This actual addiction for social network is not an exception.

Indeed there is now treatment for internet addiction, like for drug or alcoholism.

Then we have met Steven Smith, doctor in the St Mary’s hospital since five years.

“-the treatment for internet addiction is proposed in this hospital for children addicted to internet or any connected object.

Our program consists in depriving the children of all this technology by proposing us other way to communicate, share or play.

For instance we play board game or organize speed dating between the patients.” We have also visited a boarding school where the connected objects and internet are prohibited.

The headmaster of the school explained us his radical decision.

“- We have forbidden internet and the social network in our borders so that the student become more sociable and develop a team spirit between them.

I think it works !” These three situations prove us, on the one hand, the importance of internet and the social network for the teenagers development and on the other hand that it may become dangerous when we use them too much.

Indeed, we think the social network are fantastic and had changed the world but the teenagers and us have to be careful and use them with moderation.
