  • American Gun control- Synthesis

    • The following documents are presented in a conference entitled "American gun control, a sociological issue" that tries to explain why despite many shootings the law about gun control cannot be change .
    • For many years, some American politicians try to apply a law in favor of gun control but many Americans are reluctant to drop their personal weapons.
    • In a first part, our explanation of this phenomenon presents historical reasons.
    • Then, we present the point of view of people who are against gun control.
    • Finally, the arguments of militants who support gun control will be exposed.
    • The second Amendment was voted during the time when the British occupied the New World.
    • Since this time, American people are willing to protect themselves, that’s why owning a gun is so important.
    • Now Today, the personal weapon is a part of the American culture.
    • Gun control is considered by many as a restriction of the second Amendment and the Constitution, by extension as a restriction of their rights.
    • Moreover, we can observe a lack of confidence in police and justice systems, therefore people feel the need to protect themselves.
    • Another common argument is that even if buying weapons was illegal murderers would find another way to buy some or another way to kill or commit violence.
    • On the contrary, people in favor of some kind of gun control think that such measures can decreases violence in the United-States and can stop some murders like shootings in different schools.
    • For this people, the second Amendment is responsible for the high rate of violence because they are use by non-prudent persons.
    • Finally, in an historic view some people argue that this law was created to keep the superiority of White people on Black people after the independence of slaves and the NRA, the association which protect the right to wear weapons, is the new Ku Klux Klan.
    • Thus, the debate about the second Amendment and a possible gun control law continue between adherents and opponents.
    • This debate is not only about gun and violence but it is also about rights, liberty and tradition.
