Practicing English
- I have been learning English for five years.
- I love this language but I have difficult to understand when I have to use tenses.
- They are a problem for a lot of Italian students.
- Because our tenses are used in a specific way referring to the past or the present.
- On the contrary, English tenses sometimes are exchangeable with different grade of emphasis.
- This is the case of present perfect/past perfect and present perfect continuous/past perfect continuous.
- In addiction, they can refer to an action made in the past but that have a consequence in the present, or one tense has to be used for an earlier action in the past before an other one take place.
- It is a little mess because, for example, had gone and have gone for me have the same meaning.
- Finally, as I wrote in my first text, I cannot think in English as my teachers say.
- I make translation from my native language to English.
- For examples, Italian passato prossimo can have as equivalent the present simple or the present perfect.
- I know I don't have to translate and have to practise English every day by listening radio or English programs.
- But, I would like to improve the English grammar too in order to teach it one day.
