  • San Francisco

  • Drum rolls please!
  • Today let me tell you about the fantastic city of San Francisco.
  • Obviously, what I’m going to write will not be enough to describe how wonderful that place is.
  • However, it will at least give you an overview ;) I think the first thing we did after getting there was crossing the Golden Gate Bridge.
  • We had been waiting to seeing it for so long that it had become a symbol of America for us.
  • The bridge was even more impressing that what I had imagined, throwing its red pillars and wires into the fogy sky.
  • We did cross it a couple of times while we were in San Francisco, and we had the opportunity to see it in many different weathers: mysterious in the fog, almost scary down the rain, bright and shiny in the sun with a wonderful view on the city’s skyline and Alcatraz island across the bay.
  • San Francisco is much more similar to Europe than Los Angeles, but I couldn’t tell why.
  • There, most of the streets are really stiff, we were constantly going up or down and I was glad we had rent a car and didn’t have to walk up or down these streets (though I couldn’t help thinking the car would turn down because of the declivity…) The most beautiful of all these streets is undoubtedly Lombard street, that goes down zigzagging among nice flowerbeds.
  • Higher, on top of the city, is the wonderful point of view of Twin Peaks that allows us to see the whole San Francisco all around the hill.
  • I had never seen such a perfect point of view; we had the city below us slowly turning its lights on while the sky was getting dark.
  • It was a wonderful sense of freedom I felt while watching that amazing landscape.
  • I find it almost impossible to make a choice, but I think that, for me, the most beautiful part of the city was Fisherman’s Wharf, the fishing port with its many piers, and in particular pier 39 with its shops and nice restaurants where we can eat typical fish and seafood meals.
  • There’s an enchanting atmosphere in that part of the town next to the ocean where many fishing boats are waiting for their next ride and some sea lions have taken up residence.
  • From there we took the boat that brought us to the iconic prison of Alcatraz, situated on an island miles away from the coast.
  • The atmosphere there is heavy and the history difficult, but the garden and the view on the city are simply wonderful.
  • On the other side of the bay, across the bridge, we found two other really interesting places: the beautiful little village of Sausalito, just in front of San Francisco, with its nice houses and restaurants, and the nature park of Muir Woods where giant sequoias grow and where it’s pleasant to take a walk among the beautiful natural landscape.
  • And finally, the last nice point of that time in San Francisco was: our hotel was situated in the south of the city, a few miles away from the headquarters of Google, Facebook and Apple, among others.
  • I totally felt like I was in the centre of the world… I loved San Francisco for its colours, for its diversity, for its free atmosphere, and for its particular beauty that I had never seen in any other city.
