  • A little piece of advice

    • I’m being totally honest with you here: I almost lost myself when I got here last year because I arrived in a complete new world and started living a new and more exiting life.
    • However, when I realized that I was forgetting almost all the things that where important for me before, I freaked out.
  • Some things mustn’t be forgotten, and even if it’s hard, I think that we must try to control it and not erase our past completely because we could regret it.
  • So please beware not to forget neither who you are nor where you come from.
  • It’s really easy to lose oneself when everything is different.
  • Your points of reference change, it’s like living a second, parallel life in another world (at least this is what happened for me and now whenever I travel between Spain and Switzerland it feels like I’m travelling through time, to another universe…).
    • However, even if this stay abroad is for you the occasion of a new beginning, remember that it’s almost impossible to start everything from scratch again.
  • Don’t forget either that you’re leaving behind your family and friends who love you and who it would be too bad to lose only because you’re not able to find time for them in the excitement of your new life.
  • This could be a huge mistake, and I know what I’m talking about because I made it.
  • A last thing you shouldn’t forget is what makes you and what you love, what are your passions and talents.
    • If it has been so important for you once, it’s not supposed to lose all its importance only because now you’re living in another country and living new experiences.
  • It’s easy to be overwhelmed with so many new things and people, and this can easily make us forget what was important to us before.
  • But believe me, sooner or later we realize what we’ve lost and regret it.
  • If you have a passion, you should always find some time for it, otherwise you’ll miss it after a while.
  • This happened to me when I stopped writing last year because I thought I didn’t have time for it, I had more interesting things to do.
  • But when I realized I had lost what was one of the most important aspects of my life, what defined me, I immediately regretted it and tried to go back to it.
  • So here it is, in a nutshell: Enjoy your stay but don’t forget who you are.
    • Use this new experience to learn about life and add new aspects to you personality, but without changing everything at once, even if it seems tempting, because this could be a dangerous choice.
    • Have fun and don’t forget to tell me about you experience abroad if you’re living the same situation as I am :D
