"Magari" can replace "forse" without big changes of meaning:

• magari stasera vado al cinema / forse stasera vado al cinema

maybe tonight I'm going to the cinema

"piuttosto" can also replace "forse" without big changes of meaning:

• piuttosto vado solo, ma con lui non viaggio / magari vado solo, ma con lui non viaggio

maybe I'll go alone, but I don't travel with him

Also "magari" is an exclamation used to express desire or regret

• magari avessi un mese di ferie!

maybe I had a month's leave!

• magari mi avessero già pagato per quel lavoro!

Maybe they had already paid me for that job!

• Non vai in montagna domenica? No, magari!, devo lavorare

Don't you go to the mountains on Sunday? No, maybe, I have to work
