Belarusian language has six cases, and the locative case is one of them. This case is used to describe the location of a person or object in relation to something else. Locative prepositions are words that indicate where something or someone is located. They are essential in forming phrases and sentences in Belarusian.

Understanding Locative Prepositions

Belarusian locative prepositions indicate the location of things or persons. Some examples of the most common locative prepositions are “у”, "на", “ў”, "пры", "до", and "ад".

Belarusian Locative Prepositions and their English Translations

Here is a table showing the different locative prepositions and their corresponding English translations:

Examples of Locative Prepositions in Use

  • Я жыву ў Беларусі. (I live in Belarus.)
  • Ён зрабіў прэзентацыю пры студэнцкім доме. (He gave a presentation near the student dormitory.)
  • Я паехаў на вакацыі да маці ў гасці. (I went on vacation to visit my mother.)
  • Гэты лес знаходзіцца на тэрыторыі нацыянальнага запаведніка. (This forest is located on the territory of a national nature reserve.)
  • Сонца сядзець да 8 гадзіны раніцы. (The sun sets until 8 in the morning.)
  • Праўда, Яўгенія Літвінас з'яўлялася ад Карэі да Польшчы. (Indeed, Eugenia Litvinas traveled from Korea to Poland.)
