Mandarin: One of the Most Spoken Languages in the World

Greeting Someone in Mandarin-Chinese

When visiting China, you'll encounter a variety of languages and dialects. However, Mandarin is the most widely spoken, especially in urban and many rural areas. Understanding basic greetings in Mandarin can significantly enhance your experience.

Common Greetings in Mandarin

  • To greet anyone, regardless of gender: 你好 (nǐ hǎo) which means "Hello".
  • For a casual greeting, similar to "Hi": 嗨 (hāi).
  • A friendly way to ask someone's name: 你叫什么名字?(Nǐ jiào shénme míngzì?) which means "What's your name?".
