Coordinating Conjunctions

In Bashkir, there are seven coordinating conjunctions that are commonly used. These words are used to connect words, phrases, and clauses of equal importance. Here are the seven coordinating conjunctions in Bashkir:

  • уҡ (uk) – and
  • йәки (yäki) – but
  • йәкиһәм (yäkihäm) – however
  • яки (yaki) – or
  • йәлә (yälä) – and/or
  • не (ne) – not
  • уҡай (ukay) – as well as

To use these coordinating conjunctions in Bashkir sentences, place them between the words or phrases that need to be connected. Here are some examples:

Мин ҡара төрөн балык йәке миллион имитация алдым. Min qara tören balïq yäke million imitasiya aldïm. I bought a black sea bass and a million imitations.
Мөхөәйдә яки менә язгычакты башкармаҡ өстәмәгән. Möhöydä yäki menä yazğïçaqta bäşkarmaq östämägän. Either Mohid or I have not received the letter.
Мин йәкиһәм бәүгеттәр татулмаған. Min yäkihäm bä’ugettär tätulmağan. However, I have not received the budgets.

Subordinating Conjunctions

These are the conjunctions that are used to connect clauses of unequal importance. In Bashkir, there are several subordinating conjunctions that are used frequently. Here are some examples:

  • айт өй (ayt öy) – because
  • алдында (aldïnda) – before
  • аларҙа (alarða) – until
  • ҡайһылтарыуы – if
  • эгәр (egär) – if
  • тәгән (tägän) – after
  • үҙ (üð) – when

To use these subordinating conjunctions in Bashkir sentences, place them before the subordinate clause. Here are some examples:

Сәламетлек бир протокол еләштереләнә кадәр дансә үҙ бөтөрө суйуу нөктәсендә сугышылышын әйләндерә. Sälämätläk bir protocol eläşterelänä kadar dansä üð botörö suyuu nöktäsendä sugışılışın äyländärä. Let's discuss the organization of the whole dance in the location of the spring until the adoption of a security protocol.
Мин алдында икәндән билер позыцияҡа килеп чыккан. Min aldïnda ikändän biler poziyatsäqa kilep çıqan. I left for the station before 2:00.
Йөмәк табылмаса, биз электрондык почта утыйынан билдәһе таяу. Yömäk tabılmasa, biz elektrondïk poçta utïyınan bildähä tayaw. If the food is not found, we will order it via e-mail.
