Novruz

One of the most significant holidays in North Azerbaijan is Novruz. The celebration of Novruz marks the equinox, the first day of spring, and the start of the new year. This holiday is celebrated by cleaning homes, preparing festive foods, and visiting friends and relatives. Some of the popular foods prepared for Novruz are Samani, a sweet pudding made from germinated wheat, and Dolma, stuffed grape leaves or vegetables.

Ramadan is the month of fasting in the Islamic calendar. North Azerbaijani Muslims take fasting seriously and refrain from eating from dawn until sunset during the month of Ramadan. The evenings are spent breaking the fast with family and friends, and the last ten days of Ramadan are particularly celebrated with nightly prayers known as Tarawih.
