Turkish Vocabulary - Count to 10

Hi Turkish learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn how to count from 1 to 10 in Turkish. Numbers are an essential part of any language, and in Turkish, counting is easy once you know the basics. Let's get started!

Counting from 1 to 5

To get started, let's learn the numbers from one to five. Once you have learned these, counting to 10 is a breeze.

Turkish Pronunciation English
Bir beer One
İki eeki Two
Üç ooch Three
Dört dort Four
Beş besh Five

Here are some examples of how to use these numbers in common phrases:

  • Person 1: Bir elma alabilir miyim? (Can I have an apple?)
  • Person 2: Tabii, buyrun. (Sure, here you go.)
  • Person 1: Kaç kardeşiniz var? (How many siblings do you have?)
  • Person 2: İki erkek kardeşim var. (I have two brothers.)

Counting from 6 to 10

Now that we know how to count to five, let's move on to the next set of numbers. These are slightly trickier to pronounce, but with a bit of effort, you'll have them down in no time.

Let's take a look at some dialogues that use these new numbers:

  • Person 1: Beş tane elma alabilirim lütfen. (I'll have five apples, please.)
  • Person 2: Beş mi? Altı tane daha alın, bir indirim var. (Five? Get six more, there's a discount.)
  • Person 1: Yılbaşı hediyesi olarak kaç adet çikolata aldın? (How many chocolates did you buy as a New Year's gift?)
  • Person 2: Dokuz tane aldım. (I bought nine.)
