Language/Yoruba/Grammar/Future-Tense
Hi Yoruba learners! 😊
In this lesson, you will learn how to form the future tense in Yoruba. This is an important part of the language and it will help you to express yourself more accurately.
The future tense in Yoruba is formed by adding the particle ni to the verb stem. The particle ni is used to indicate that the action will take place in the future. For example:
Yoruba | Pronunciation | English Translation |
---|---|---|
bẹ́ | bé | to come |
bẹ́ ni | bé ní | will come |
The particle ni can also be used with other particles to form different tenses. For example, the particle sì can be added to the verb stem to form the future perfect tense. The future perfect tense is used to indicate that an action will have been completed in the future. For example:
Yoruba | Pronunciation | English Translation |
---|---|---|
bẹ́ | bé | to come |
bẹ́ sì | bé sí | will have come |
The particle ni can also be used with the negative particle kò to form the negative future tense. The negative future tense is used to indicate that an action will not take place in the future. For example:
Yoruba | Pronunciation | English Translation |
---|---|---|
bẹ́ | bé | to come |
bẹ́ kò ni | bé kó ní | will not come |
It is important to note that the particle ni is always placed after the verb stem and before any other particles.
