Borana-Arsi-Guji Oromo Grammar - Future Tense

In this lesson, we will learn about the future tense in Borana-Arsi-Guji Oromo. We will look at how to form sentences in the future tense and how to use them in everyday conversations.

Forming the Future Tense

The future tense in Borana-Arsi-Guji Oromo is formed by adding the suffix -a to the verb stem. For example, the verb stem for "to go" is gala- and the future tense of this verb is galata.

galata ga-la-ta I will go
qabata qa-ba-ta He/She will come
qaxata qa-xa-ta We will eat
qalata qa-la-ta They will speak

Using the Future Tense

The future tense is used to talk about actions that will happen in the future. It can also be used to make predictions or to express intentions.

  • Galata ani bakka. - I will go tomorrow.
  • Qabata ani bakka. - He/She will come tomorrow.
  • Qaxata ani bakka. - We will eat tomorrow.
  • Qalata ani bakka. - They will speak tomorrow.
