Bulgarian Grammar - Pronouns

Hi Bulgarian learners! 😊
In today's lesson, we will be discussing the use of pronouns in Bulgarian. Pronouns are words that can replace nouns and are used to make sentences more concise. We will look at the different types of pronouns, how they are used, and some examples of their usage.

Personal Pronouns

Personal pronouns are used to refer to people or things. In Bulgarian, there are two types of personal pronouns: subject pronouns and object pronouns.

Subject Pronouns

Subject pronouns are used when the pronoun is the subject of the sentence. For example:

  • Аз (I)
  • Ти (you)
  • Той/тя (he/she)
  • Ние (we)
  • Вие (you)
  • Те (they)

For example:

  • Аз идвам. (I am coming.)
  • Ти го правиш. (You are doing it.)
  • Той е добър ученик. (He is a good student.)
  • Ние идваме. (We are coming.)
  • Вие го правите. (You are doing it.)
  • Те го правят. (They are doing it.)

Object Pronouns

Object pronouns are used when the pronoun is the object of the sentence. For example:

  • Мен (me)
  • Теб (you)
  • Него/нея (him/her)
  • Нас (us)
  • Вас (you)
  • Тях (them)

For example:

  • Той ме вижда. (He sees me.)
  • Тя ме обича. (She loves me.)
  • Те виждат. (They see you.)
  • Тя го вижда. (She sees him.)
  • Те обичат. (They love you.)
  • Те обичаме. (We love them.)

Possessive Pronouns

Possessive pronouns are used to indicate possession or ownership. In Bulgarian, there are two types of possessive pronouns: singular and plural.

Singular Possessive Pronouns

Singular possessive pronouns are used when the pronoun is referring to one person or thing. For example:

  • Моят (my)
  • Твоят (your)
  • Неговият (his/hers)

For example:

  • Това е моят дом. (This is my house.)
  • Това е твоят автомобил. (This is your car.)
  • Това е неговият компютър. (This is his/her computer.)

Plural Possessive Pronouns

Plural possessive pronouns are used when the pronoun is referring to more than one person or thing. For example:

  • Нашият (our)
  • Вашият (your)
  • Техният (their)

For example:

  • Това е нашият дом. (This is our house.)
  • Това е вашият автомобил. (This is your car.)
  • Това е техният компютър. (This is their computer.)

Reflexive Pronouns

Reflexive pronouns are used to refer back to the subject of the sentence. In Bulgarian, there are two types of reflexive pronouns: singular and plural.

Singular Reflexive Pronouns

Singular reflexive pronouns are used when the pronoun is referring to one person or thing. For example:

  • Себе си (myself)
  • Себе си (yourself)
  • Себе си (himself/herself)

For example:

  • Аз се обичам. (I love myself.)
  • Ти се обичаш. (You love yourself.)
  • Той се обича. (He/she loves himself/herself.)

Plural Reflexive Pronouns

Plural reflexive pronouns are used when the pronoun is referring to more than one person or thing. For example:

  • Себе си (ourselves)
  • Себе си (yourselves)
  • Себе си (themselves)

For example:

  • Ние се обичаме. (We love ourselves.)
  • Вие се обичате. (You love yourselves.)
  • Те се обичат. (They love themselves.)
