Standard Moroccan Tamazight Grammar - Adjectives

Hi Standard Moroccan Tamazight learners! 😊 In today's lesson, we will be discussing adjectives in Standard Moroccan Tamazight. Adjectives are words that describe or modify nouns and pronouns. They can be used to give more information about the noun or pronoun they are describing.

Types of Adjectives

Adjectives can be divided into two main categories: descriptive adjectives and possessive adjectives.

Descriptive Adjectives

Descriptive adjectives are used to describe the qualities of a noun or pronoun. Examples of descriptive adjectives include: big, small, tall, short, happy, sad, etc.

Possessive Adjectives

Possessive adjectives are used to show ownership or possession. Examples of possessive adjectives include: my, your, his, her, its, our, their, etc.

Adjective Placement

In Standard Moroccan Tamazight, adjectives usually come before the noun or pronoun they are describing. For example:

  • The big house (not the house big)
  • My happy dog (not my dog happy)

However, there are some exceptions to this rule. For example, when using the verb to be, the adjective usually comes after the noun or pronoun. For example:

  • The house is big (not the big house is)
  • My dog is happy (not my happy dog is)

Adjective Agreement

In Standard Moroccan Tamazight, adjectives must agree with the noun or pronoun they are describing in gender and number. For example:

  • The big house (masculine singular)
  • The big houses (masculine plural)
  • The big woman (feminine singular)
  • The big women (feminine plural)
