- In Brazil, sport is more of a cult than a pastime. It is synonymous with gatherings, festive encounters and genuine popular enthusiasm. Football, of course, is by far the most popular sport. It is part of the national identity, but it would be simplistic to limit ourselves to the round ball. Brazilians practice all kinds of sports: volleyball, kite surfing, swimming, etc.
- Football (Soccer) is certainly the most popular sport in Portugal and also the most practiced. The national team is among the top rated teams in Europe and the world and many talented players like Ronaldo and Figo come from Portugal. Portugal has 3 main football clubs which are well known in most of the football world; Porto, Sporting and Benfica from Lisbon and the 3 clubs have great support from their Portuguese fans. Portugal has two big football events every year; The Portuguese Liga, currently named Liga Sagres after its main sponsor and the Portuguese Cup (Portuguese Millennium Cup).
