In today's lesson, I'm going to teach you some basic vocabulary about "art".
So, let's start by translating the word "Art" into the correct Spanish writing form.
Also, the other words you will learn in this lesson will be the correct forms of writing.
I will use the "=" sign. In Spanish we call this sign "equals" ("Igual" in Spanish) or "the same" ("Lo mismo" in Spanish).
Let's get started.
Art = Arte
- There are seven arts = Hay siete artes; Existen siete artes
Architecture = Arquitectura
- Profession: Architect = Arquitecto (Male) o Arquitecta (Female)
- Building = Edificio
- House = Casa
- Home = Hogar
- Church = Iglesia
Examples
- The Architect Desings this Building and my house too (El arquitecto diseña este edificio y mi casa también)
Sculpture = Escultura
- Profession: Sculptor = Escultor (Male) o Escultora (Female)
- To sculpt = Esculpir
- Statue = Estatua
Examples
- What sculptor did this sculpture? (¿Que escultor hizo esta escultura?)
Painting = Pintura
- Profession: Painter = Pintor (Male) o Pintora (Female)
- Infinitive Verb: Paint = Pintar
- Colors = Colores
- Red = Rojo
- Blue = Azul
- Yellow = Amarillo
- Brush = Brocha o Cepillo
- Oil = Óleo
Examples
- I love to paint with primary colors (Me encanta pintar con los colores primarios)
Music = Música
- Profession: Musician = Músico (Male and Female)
- Song = Canción
- Singer = Cantante
- Sing a song is like "Cantar una Canción" and play a song is like "tocar una canción" the verb "tocar" is also used to to say "touch" out of the context of music, for example touch my hand is like "Tocar mi mano"
- Musical Instruments = Instrumentos Musicales
- Guitar = Guitarra
- Orchestra = Orquesta
- Music Band = Banda Musical
- Singer (Cantante) is the same for male and female
Examples
- The singer of this band is very good and play the guitar too, an excelent musician (La cantante de esta banda es muy buena y también toca la guitarra, una excelente músico)
Dance = Danza o Baile
- Infinitive Verbs: Danzar and Bailar
- Profession: Dancer = Bailarín (Male) o Bailarina (Female)
- Someone who loves to dance = Bailador o Bailadora /
Examples
- In my town the Folk Dance Festival is very popular and dancers from all over the world come (En mi ciudad el Festival de Danza Folclorica es muy popular y vienen bailarines de todo el mundo)
Poetry and Literature = Poesía y Literatura
- Profession: Poet or Writer = Poeta (Male and Female) o Escritor (Male) y Escritora (Female)
- Writing = Escritura
- Infinitive Verbs: Write = Escribir ; Recite = Recitar; Read = Leer
Words
- Author = Autor
- Book = Libro
- Pages = Páginas
- Poem = Poema
- Letter = Letra. Literal Translation (In english you can use the word "letter" to say: I write a letter; and you can use the same word "letter" to refer to a letter of the alphabet individually but in spanish that can not be, so in spanish you will use the word "Carta" when you want to talk about writing letters "Escribiendo Cartas" and you will use the word "Letra" when you want to talk about of write an individual letter of the alphabet "Escribe la letra del alfabeto"
Examples
- The author of this book is a very good writer and he writes poems too (el autor de este libro es muy buen escritor y él escribe poemas también); I wrote a letter to my girlfriend (Yo escribí una carta para mi novia); I know all the letters in the alphabeth (Yo conozco todas las letras del alfabeto); My favorite book is "A Dance with Dragons" (Mi libro favorito es Danza de Dragones)
Movie Theater = Cine
- Professions: Actor= Actor; Director = Director, Actress = Actriz
- Infinitive Verbs: Act = Actuar ; Direct = Dirigir
Words
- Movie = Película
- Dialogues = Diálogos
- Scene = Escena
- Chapter = Capítulo
Examples
There are very good actors in this movie, and the director is one of my favorites.
My favorite Scene is at the end when they say "But it is not that kind of movie". (Hay muy buenos actores en esta película, y el director es uno de mis favoritos. Mi escena favorita es al final cuando dicen "Pero este no es ese tipo de película")
