As a Ukrainian language teacher for over 20 years, I believe it is important for students to not only learn the language, but also gain an understanding of Ukrainian culture and its rich history. In this lesson, we will explore some of the most well-known and influential figures in Ukrainian history and culture, including artists, writers, and politicians.

Kazimir Malevich

Kazimir Malevich was a Ukrainian-born painter and founder of the art movement known as Suprematism. He was born in Kyiv in 1879 and studied art in various cities, including Moscow and St. Petersburg. Malevich's most famous work is the painting "Black Square," which is considered one of the most important artworks of the 20th century.
