Avaric Grammar - How to Use "Be"

Hi Avaric learners! 😊

In this lesson, we will focus on the verb "be". As you know, "be" is a very important verb in any language, including Avaric. Understanding how to use it properly is essential to mastering this language!

The Basics

The verb "be" is used to describe a particular state or condition of someone or something. In Avaric, "be" is translated as "dehə" (for the present tense) and "deham" (for the past tense).

Here are some examples:

Avaric Pronunciation English
dehə /dehə/ am, is, are
deham /dehəm/ was, were

Present Tense

Let's start with the present tense. In Avaric, the present tense of "be" has only one form: "dehə".

Here are some examples:

  • The apple **is** red. (Sirok dehəy.)
  • You **are** beautiful. (Sirem dehəs.)
  • We **are** hungry. (Tin dehəs.)

As you can see, "dehə" is used to describe a state or condition in the present tense.

Now let's practice using "dehə" in a dialogue:

  • Person 1: Са газму дех? (Sa gazmu deh?) - Are you hungry?
  • Person 2: Ха, дехəр. (Kha, dehər.) - Yes, I am.

Past Tense

In Avaric, the past tense of "be" has only one form: "deham". Here are some examples:

  • The apple **was** red. (Sirok dehamı.)
  • You **were** beautiful. (Sirem dehamıs.)
  • We **were** hungry. (Tin dehamıs.)

Now let's practice using "deham" in a dialogue:

  • Person 1: Таги, ала газму дех? (Tagi, ala gazmu deh?) - Hey, weren't you hungry yesterday?
  • Person 2: Ала, магьар дехам. (Ala, mahaar deham.) - No, I was full.

Negation

To form a negative statement in Avaric, we use the negative particle "ма" (ma) and place it before the verb. Here are some examples:

  • The apple **is not** red. (Sirok ma dehəy.)
  • You **are not** beautiful. (Sirem ma dehəs.)
  • We **are not** hungry. (Tin ma dehəs.)

Questions

To form a question in Avaric, we simply exchange the subject and the verb. Here are some examples:

  • **Is** the apple red? (Sirok dehə mi?)
  • **Are** you beautiful? (Sirem dehəs mi?)
  • **Are** we hungry? (Tin dehəs mi?)

Summary

To summarize, "be" is an essential verb to master in Avaric. In the present tense, "dehə" is used to describe a state or condition. In the past tense, "deham" is used. Remember to use the negative particle "ма" for negative statements and to exchange the subject and the verb for questions.
