Forming the Future Tense
The future tense in Tigrinya is formed by adding the suffix -αα (-nem) to the verb stem. This suffix is added to the verb stem regardless of the person or number of the subject.
For example, the verb α₯α© (eyu) means "to come". To form the future tense, the suffix -αα (-nem) is added to the verb stem α₯α© (eyu):
- α₯α©αα (eyunem) - "I will come"
- α₯α©αα (eyunem) - "you will come"
- α₯α©αα (eyunem) - "he/she will come"
- α₯α©αα (eyunem) - "we will come"
- α₯α©αα (eyunem) - "they will come"
