Croatian Grammar - How to Use "Have"

Hi Croatian learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn how to use the verb "have" in Croatian. We will look at the conjugation of the verb, as well as some examples of how it is used in sentences.

Conjugation

The verb "have" in Croatian is imati. It is an irregular verb, and its conjugation is as follows:

Person Singular Plural
I imam imamo
You imaš imate
He/She/It ima imaju

Examples

Let's look at some examples of how the verb "have" is used in sentences.

  • Person 1: Imaš li brata? (Do you have a brother?)
  • Person 2: Da, imam jednog brata. (Yes, I have one brother.)
  • Person 1: Imate li kćer? (Do you have a daughter?)
  • Person 2: Ne, nemamo kćer. (No, we don't have a daughter.)
  • Person 1: Ima li ona sestru? (Does she have a sister?)
  • Person 2: Da, ona ima dvije sestre. (Yes, she has two sisters.)

Practice

Now it's time to practice using the verb "have" in Croatian. Try to make your own sentences using the conjugation table above. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Imaš li prijatelja? (Do you have a friend?)
  • Imate li automobil? (Do you have a car?)
