Macedonian has three genders: masculine, feminine and neuter. The gender of a noun affects the form of the article, adjectives and pronouns that are used with it.
Rules
The gender of a noun is usually determined by its ending. Here are some general rules for identifying the gender of a noun:
- Masculine nouns usually end in -а, -о, -е, -и, -ци, -че, -гар, -кар, -ште, -шкар, -чкар, -цар, -чар, -шар, -штар, -штарин, -штарина, -цин, -цина, -цине, -цини, -цинка, -цинкар, -цинкарин, -цинкарина, -цинкарине, -цинкарини, -цинкаринка, -цинкаринкар, -цинкаринкарин, -цинкаринкарина, -цинкаринкарине, -цинкаринкарини.
- Feminine nouns usually end in -а, -я, -ь, -ка, -ца, -чка, -цка, -цинка, -цинкаринка.
- Neuter nouns usually end in -о, -е, -и, -це, -че, -цинкаринкарине.
