Burmese Grammar - Future Tense

Hi Burmese learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about the future tense in Burmese. We will look at how to form sentences in the future tense and how to use them in everyday conversations.

Forming Sentences in the Future Tense

The future tense in Burmese is formed by adding the particle kya to the verb stem. For example, the verb kya (to go) becomes kya kya in the future tense.

Examples

Burmese Pronunciation English Translation
ကျပ်ကျပ် kya kya I will go
မောင်းကျပ် maung kya You will go
α€žα€°α€€α€»α€•α€Ί thu kya He/She will go
ထောက်ကျပ် auk kya We will go
α€žα€°α€™α€»α€α€―α€Έα€€α€»α€•α€Ί thu moe kya They will go

Using the Future Tense in Conversations

The future tense is used to talk about plans and intentions. It can also be used to make predictions about the future.

For example:

  • α€€α€»α€•α€Ία€€α€»α€•α€Ία€α€»α€„α€Ία€Έα€”α€±α€¬α€Ία€™α€Ύα€¬α€œα€¬α€™α€šα€Ία‹ (kya kya hkang naw maw lar mai?) - I will go there tomorrow.
