Welcome to Unit 4 of the Complete 0 to A1 Slovak Course! In this lesson, we will be focusing on vocabulary related to household chores and running errands. These are activities that we do on a daily or weekly basis, and knowing the relevant words and phrases will greatly improve your ability to communicate with Slovak speakers in everyday situations.
It's important to note that chores and errands can vary depending on where you live and your personal circumstances. The vocabulary we will cover in this lesson is quite general, so feel free to adapt it to your specific context as needed.
Let's get started!
Take some time to dive into these other pages after completing this lesson: Months of the Year & Language.

- umyť okná (oo-mit ohk-na) - to wash the windows
- vytierať prach (vy-tyeh-raht prahkh) - to dust
- utierať (oo-tyehr-aht) - to wipe
Laundry
- prať (praht) - to wash
- sušiť (soo-sheeth) - to dry
- žehliť (zheh-leet) - to iron
- zložiť (zloh-zheet) - to fold
Cooking
- variť (vah-reet) - to cook
- piecť (pyehtscht) - to bake

You can use these verbs with different nouns to describe specific actions. For example, to wash the dishes is umývať riad, and to make the bed is robiť posteľ.
Here is a table with more examples:

Errands
Errands are tasks that we do outside of the home, such as grocery shopping, going to the post office, or picking up dry cleaning.
Here are some common errands in Slovak:

- ísť na poštu (eest na posh-too) - to go to the bank
You can use the verb ísť (to go) with different nouns to describe specific activities. For example, to go to the grocery store is ísť do obchodu, and to go to the library is ísť do knižnice.
Here is a table with more examples:
Slovak | Pronunciation | English |
---|---|---|
vybaviť si platbu | vee-bah-veet see plaht-boo | to make a payment |
vyzdvihnúť balík | vyzdvee-eh-noot bah-leek | to pick up a package |
