Burmese Grammar - How to Use "Be"

Hi Burmese learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn how to use the verb "be" in Burmese. We will look at the different forms of the verb and how to use them in sentences.

The verb "be" is used to describe a state or condition. In Burmese, it is conjugated differently depending on the subject of the sentence. The verb "be" is conjugated as follows:

က်ြန္ေတာ္ kyun-tar I
α€žα€° thu you (singular)
α€žα€°α€„α€šα€Ή thu-nye you (plural)
α€˜α€¬ ba he/she/it
ထေတာ္မ်ား atar-ma we

The verb "be" is conjugated as follows:

Let's look at some examples of how to use the verb "be" in sentences.

  • Person 1: က်ြန္ေတာ္ α€˜α€šα€Ήα€œα€­α€―α€±α€αšα€α€²α€·α€œα€¬α€Έ? (Kyun-tar ba-li-lo-kwa-gyi-lar?)

Translation: Am I welcome?

  • Person 2: α€˜α€šα€Ήα€œα€­α€―α€±α€αšα€α€²α€·α€•α€«α‹ (Ba-li-lo-kwa-gyi-pa.)

Translation: Yes, you are welcome.
