Expression: "Voir le verre (la bouteille) à moitié vide ou à moitié plein (pleine)"

Salut! French learners 😀

In today's lesson, we will learn a new common French expression.

  • "Voir le verre (la bouteille) à moitié vide ou le verre (la bouteille) à moitié plein(e)."

Meaning

  • Literal Translation: "See the glass (or the bottle) half empty or half full"
  • Cela signifie...

It means...

  • C'est voir les choses, les évènements (qui peuvent vous arriver) de façon négative ou alors de les voir de façon positive.

It's seeing things, events (which can also happen to you) in a positive way or seeing them negatively.

Example

You can use this expression if you think someone is reacting negatively by saying:

  • Tu devrais voir la bouteille à moitié pleine !

Video: Voyez-vous le verre à moitié PLEIN ou à moitié VIDE?

This video is a good illustration of today's expression. This is a message from the famous personal development coach Franck Nicolas. He encourages people to always "see the glass half full" (voir le verre à moitié plein) to feel good about life.
