In this lesson, we will discuss the future tense, which is used to describe actions that will happen in the future.

Formation[edit | edit source]
To form the future tense in Abkhazian, you will need to add the following suffixes to the verb stem:

| You all | -ааҕа |
| They | -аара |
For example, let's take the verb "to eat" (аҟәаҧ) and form the future tense.

You may have noticed that the future tense suffixes are added to the verb stem without any changes. This is different from the present tense, where the suffixes change depending on the verb class.
Usage[edit | edit source]
The future tense is used to describe actions that will happen in the future. Similar to English, it can also express intentions or predictions.
Let's take a look at some examples:

| Аҟәаҧам ауахь. | I will eat tomorrow. |
| Абзьы ирыкәаҩ акорзаақәа. | Abzy will play football on Sunday. |
| Айырма ламҩасса лхарҵәаҕара. | They will visit the museum next week. |
| Леоны аҟәаҧаан шәӡырхәын. | Leoni and I will dance tonight. |
As you can see from the examples, the future tense is often used together with time expressions, such as tomorrow or next week.
Dialogues[edit | edit source]
Here are some dialogues that use the future tense:
- Person 1: Аҟәаҧашы лакәырхәит? (Aҟәаҧашы лакәырхәит?) (What will you do?)
- Person 2: Аҭшьа адыкәаҩ абыргра. (Aҭшьа адыкәаҩ абыргра.) (I will study Abkhazian.)
- Person 1: Аҟәаҧаан лапсараылла? (Aҟәаҧаан лапсараылла?) (Will we see each other again?)
- Person 2: Агәа, лапсараҩшәҵәа. (Агәа, лапсараҩшәҵәа.) (Yes, we will see each other again.)
Interesting Fact[edit | edit source]
In Abkhazian culture, it is believed that if you dream about a snake, it means that you will receive money in the future. This belief is so common that there is even a saying "Нашьтәа хьаҧардзыхь аргьыуа рыкәеи" which means "Dreaming of a snake is like finding money".
