Formation[edit | edit source]
The conditional mood is formed by using the verb stem and adding the suffix ਤਾਂ/-ਤੇ/-ਤੀ/-ਤੇ to it. The suffix depends on the gender and number of the subject.
Masculine Singular[edit | edit source]
For masculine singular subjects, the suffix ਤਾਂ is added to the verb stem.
For example:
- ਪੜਦਾਂ - To read
- ਪੜਦਾਂਤਾਂ - If I read
Feminine Singular[edit | edit source]
For feminine singular subjects, the suffix ਤੀ is added to the verb stem.
For example:
- ਪੜਦੀ - To read
- ਪੜਦੀਤੀ - If I read
Masculine Plural[edit | edit source]
For masculine plural subjects, the suffix ਤੇ is added to the verb stem.
For example:
- ਪੜਦੇ - To read
- ਪੜਦੇਤੇ - If I read
Feminine Plural[edit | edit source]
For feminine plural subjects, the suffix ਤੇ is added to the verb stem.
For example:
- ਪੜਦੀਆਂ - To read
- ਪੜਦੀਆਂਤੇ - If I read
Usage[edit | edit source]
The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or an unreal condition. It is also used to express a wish or a desire.
For example:
- ਅਗਲੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਮੈਂ ਅੱਜ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਨਾਲ ਗਿਆਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਆਨਕਾਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਤਾ - If I were to study with you next month, I would be happy.
- ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਗਿਆਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਆਨਕਾਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਤਾ - I would be happy if I were to study with you.
