Standard Latvian Grammar - Nouns

Hi Standard Latvian learners! 😊
In today's lesson, we will be discussing the basics of Standard Latvian grammar, focusing on nouns. We will look at the different types of nouns, their gender, and how to form plurals. By the end of this lesson, you should have a good understanding of Standard Latvian nouns.

Types of Nouns

Standard Latvian has two types of nouns: common nouns and proper nouns. Common nouns are words that refer to general things, such as "cat" or "table". Proper nouns are words that refer to specific people, places, or things, such as "John" or "Riga".

Gender

Standard Latvian nouns have two genders: masculine and feminine. Masculine nouns usually end in -s or -š, while feminine nouns usually end in -a or -e. For example, the word for "cat" is kaķis (masculine) and the word for "dog" is suņa (feminine).

Plurals

Standard Latvian nouns can be made plural by adding the suffix -i. For example, the word for "cat" (kaķis) becomes kaķi when made plural. However, there are some exceptions to this rule. For example, the word for "dog" (suņa) becomes suņi when made plural.

Conclusion
