The conditional mood in Xhosa is formed by adding the suffix -a to the verb stem. This suffix is added to the verb stem regardless of the tense. For example, the verb stem for the verb "to write" is -thatha. To form the conditional mood, the suffix -a is added to the verb stem, resulting in -thath-a.

- Ndithatha - I would write
- Uyathatha - You would write
- Uyathathile - You would have written
- Uyathathana - You would be writing
