Language/Spanish/Vocabulary/Lunfardo
Lunfardo is a slang language born in the districts of Buenos Aires, where it developed during the second half of the 19th century, with the massive arrivals of European immigrants.
The lunfardo is a product of the languages of the immigrant currents of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and was born in the overcrowding of the conventillos by the need to communicate.
There are approximately 6 thousand terms, but it is a dynamic number: some arise and others fall into disuse. The Academia Porteña del Lunfardo estimates that about 70 words appear per year.
