Southern Uzbek Vocabulary - Drinks

Hi Southern Uzbek learners! 😊
In this lesson, we are going to learn about the most common drinks in Southern Uzbek. As with any language, understanding the food and drink culture is essential. Uzbekistan has a variety of non-alcoholic drinks which are found all over the country. Therefore, it is important to know about these drinks and how they are prepared.

Refreshment Drinks[edit | edit source]

Refreshment drinks are popular in Southern Uzbek, especially in the hot summer season. Some of the popular drinks are:

сут sut Milk
Айран ayran Ayran (Yoghurt drink)

  • "Sharbat" is commonly served during the summer and is made by mixing sugar and distilled water. Different types of Sharbat are available in Uzbekistan, such as "Goroxoba", "Kudrati Sharbat", "Boburuq".
  • Uzbek Ayran is one of the most popular drinks in Uzbekistan. It is made up of yogurt and water, and sometimes salt is added for taste.

Tea and Coffee[edit | edit source]

Coffee and tea shops are famous in Uzbekistan. Tea is a drink that is common all over Uzbekistan, and it served in many homes during celebrations. Coffee is very popular, and a number of coffee shops have been opened up in Uzbekistan.

  • Person 2: Кулган дегандан кейин муваффақият бўлади. (Kulgan degandan keyin muvaffaqiyat bo'ladi.) (You will be successful after drinking it.)

Soft Drinks[edit | edit source]

Soft drinks such as Coca Cola, Pepsi, and Sprite are available all over Uzbekistan. However, there are some local drinks that are worth trying out.

  • "Siqanjabim" is a traditional Uzbek drink, and it is made up of lemon and sugar.

  • Person 1: Наққош бевафо сўзлар билан карши унланмоқмимда. Сиқанжабин ичайми? (Naqqosh bevafa so'zlari bilan qarshi unlanmoqtimda. Siqanjabin ichaymi?) (I feel bad because of my unfaithful words. Could we have some lemonade?)
  • Person 2: Ажабланди. Бола таомини чиқарар эканмиз. (Ajablandi. Bola ta'omini chiqarar eknamiz.) (Sure. We can have some food with it.)
