South Azerbaijani Family Culture[edit | edit source]

South Azerbaijani's family structures used to be patrilocal. Men were the traditional breadwinners, and women generally stayed home and cared for the children. However, with the modernization of society, gender roles are becoming interchangeable, and more women are now joining the workforce. South Azerbaijani families remain close-knit, with families living near each other, and often part of the family lives in the same household.

An essential part of South Azerbaijani culture is hospitality. It is a significant element of the Azerbaijani worldview and an essential part of social life. Guests are treated like royalty; food and drink are offered generously, and guest rooms are specially prepared.
