Hi South Azerbaijani learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about the most common drinks in South Azerbaijani. By the end of this lesson, you will be able to order drinks in Azerbaijani with confidence. Don't forget to practice your pronunciation!

Tea[edit | edit source]

Tea is one of the most popular drinks in Azerbaijan. It is usually drunk hot and is often served with homemade jam, sugar cubes or biscuits. "Cay" (چای) is the Azerbaijani word for tea.

Coffee[edit | edit source]

Coffee is also a common drink in Azerbaijan. "Kofe" (قۆفه) is the Azerbaijani word for coffee. Azerbaijani coffee is usually strong and is typically served in a small cup.

Ayran[edit | edit source]

Ayran is a traditional yoghurt drink popular in Azerbaijan. It is made by mixing yoghurt with water and salt. "Ayran" (آیران) is the Azerbaijani word for ayran.

Şarab (Wine)[edit | edit source]

Wine is also very popular in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani wine is made from locally grown grapes and has a rich and fruity flavour. "Şarab" (شراب) is the Azerbaijani word for wine

  • Person 1: Xanım, bir pəyğəmbər şarabı gətirin. (<translation in English>: Ma'am, bring a pomegranate wine please.)

Nəbət/Su (Water)[edit | edit source]

Water is essential and the most common drink in Azerbaijan, especially during the hot summer months. "Su" (سو) or "Nəbət" (نبات) can be used to refer to water in Azerbaijani.

  • Person 1: Su əlavə edin, xahiş edirəm. (<translation in English>: Please add water)
