Cultural Significance[edit | edit source]

Knowing the days of the week in Omani culture and their cultural and religious practices will allow for better mutual understanding and dialogue. Friday (Jumu'ah) is considered a sacred day by Muslims and is considered the holy day of the week in Oman. It is the only day of the week when all Muslims are required to attend the congregational Friday prayer (Salatul Jumu'ah). Therefore, most shops and businesses take a break after the Friday prayer until 3 PM. Fridays are the culmination of the week, a day for rest, relaxation, and spending time with family and friends. Saturdays are considered as the start of the weekend, and it is common for people to go out, dress up and go to the mall or have a nice dinner.
