In this lesson, you will learn how to form the conditional mood in Moroccan Arabic. This is an important grammatical structure that will help you express hypothetical situations or actions that are dependent on certain conditions.

Formation of the Conditional[編集 | ソースを編集]

In Moroccan Arabic, the conditional mood is formed by adding the particle "ghadi" (غادي) before the present tense verb. This particle indicates that the action is dependent on certain conditions.

For example:

Moroccan Arabic Pronunciation Japanese
غادي نمشي ghadi nmshi 行くつもりだ
غادي تكلم ghadi tkalm 話すつもりだ
غادي نسول ghadi nsl 聞くつもりだ

As you can see from the examples above, the conditional mood is formed by simply adding "ghadi" before the verb. However, it is important to note that the particle "ghadi" is not used in all conditional sentences in Moroccan Arabic.

When the condition is expressed in the "if" clause, the verb in the main clause is not preceded by "ghadi". Instead, the particle "kan" (كان) is used in the "if" clause to express the condition.

For example:

Moroccan Arabic Pronunciation Japanese
كان بغيت نمشي kan bghit nmshi 行きたかったら、行く
كان باغي تكلم kan baghi tkalm 話したかったら、話す
كان بغيت نسول kan bghit nsl 聞きたかったら、聞く

In the examples above, the particle "kan" is used in the "if" clause to express the condition, while the verb in the main clause is not preceded by "ghadi". This is an important distinction to remember when forming conditional sentences in Moroccan Arabic.
