In this lesson, we will learn about clothes and accessories in Marathi. Clothes are an important part of our daily lives and also a reflection of a region's culture.   • Customer: होय (Hōya) (Yes)
  • Shopkeeper: आपलं नाव काय आहे? (Āpala nāva kāya āhē?) (What's your name?)
  • Customer: माझं नाव राजा आहे. (Mājha nāva rājā āhē.) (My name is Raja.)
  • Shopkeeper: ठीक आहे . आपण काय शोधता आहात? (Thik āhē. Āpaṇa kāya śōdhata āhāta?) (What are you looking for?)
  • Customer: मी एक नवीन कुर्ता घेणार आहे. (Mī ēka navīna kurtā ghēṇāra āhē.) (I'm looking for a new kurti.)
  • Shopkeeper: आपण आश्चर्य वाटू शकता, माझ्या उत्पादनांमध्ये एक अति सुंदर कुर्ता आहे. वेळेवरच तो आलेल आहे. (Āpaṇa āścarya vāṭū śakatā, mājhyā utpādanāṃmadhyē ēka ati sundara kurtā āhē. Vēḷēvaraca tō ālēla āhē.) (You'll be surprised to know, I have a really beautiful kurti in my stock. It has just arrived.)
  • Customer: तो माझ्यासाठी कशासाठी उपलब्ध आहे? (Tō mājhyāsāṭhī kashāsāṭhī upalabdh āhē?) (In what sizes is it available for me?)

Interesting Marathi Culture Facts[edit | edit source]

- The sari, a traditional Indian garment, is draped in different styles across India. In Maharashtra, it is draped in the nauvari style, where the sari is wrapped around the legs and tucked into the waist, giving it the appearance of trousers. - The turban, known as the pagadi in Marathi, is a popular headgear worn by men in Maharashtra. The style of the turban differs by region and community. - Kolhapuri chappals, a type of handcrafted leather sandals, originated in Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
