Basic Geography Vocabulary[edit | edit source]

Here are some basic vocabulary words related to geography.

nzete nzetɛ bay
mabisi mabisɛ river

Now, let's see how we can use some of these words in a dialogue:

  • Person 1: Sikoyo, na moni mbongo ya Afrika! (Look, I see the Africa island!)
  • Person 2: Mbongo ya Afrika ? E tinda ? (The Africa island ? Where is it ?)

In Lingala there are different words to describe landforms, such as mountains, valleys, or cliffs.

Let's see some examples:

  • Person 1: Moto w'enene eyinda na bango ya Kivu. (The big mountain is located in the Kivu region.)
  • Person 2: Na moni nsusu ya Luvua. (I can see the hill of Luvua.)

Here are some words to describe the weather and climate in Lingala.

  • Person 2: Ezalaka moto mingi te (It is very hot.)

Lingala is spoken in various countries and regions of Africa. Each one has its own cultural landmarks that are worth exploring.
