Education in Halh Mongolian language is called "боловсрол" (bolovsrol), derived from the word "боловсрох" (bolovsrokh) which means "to study". Here are some basic terms that you might need while discussing education:

The school system in Halh Mongolian is similar to that of other countries. Here's a list of the different educational levels:

Preschool[edit | edit source]

Preschool education in Halh Mongolian is called "шигшүүр" (shigshuur). It is optional and children usually start attending at the age of 3-4 years. Preschool is usually not considered as part of compulsory education in Halh Mongolian.

Primary school in Halh Mongolian is called "сургууль" (surguul) and is part of compulsory education. It lasts for 4 years, beginning at the age of 6. Children learn basic subjects such as math, Mongolian language, science and social studies.

At the end of the 10th grade, students take a national exam known as "орлого" (orlogo) before they enter high school.

High school education in Halh Mongolian is called "сурагчидын төв боловсрол" (suragchidyin tov bolovsrol) or "мэргэжлийн боловсрол" (mergeshliin bolovsrol). Students are offered a variety of directions such as the humanities, natural sciences, engineering, sports, arts and languages. High school education is not compulsory, but students who successfully pass the national exam can attend for free. High school lasts for 2-4 years depending on the chosen direction.

Cultural Facts[edit | edit source]

In Halh Mongolian culture, education is valued and respected, and many parents encourage their children to study hard and attain a high level of education. In ancient times, education was mostly informal and was learned through observation and listening. Scholars would take apprentices and teach them about history, philosophy, literature and other subjects. Traditional Halh Mongolian literature and music often reflect the importance of learning and scholarship.
