Egyptian Arabic Vocabulary - Geography

Hi Egyptian Arabic learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn some Egyptian Arabic vocabulary related to geography. Most of the vocabulary I will be presenting to you today is related to Egypt, so it will be very useful if you're planning on visiting this beautiful country or if you just want to learn more about it. Let's get started!

Egypt is famous for its ancient history, enchanting deserts, and the Nile River. Here are some useful words to describe them.

Dialogue:

Egypt, also known as the "Gift of the Nile," is situated near the Mediterranean and Red Seas.

  • Person 1: مرات أحلامي أروح عند البحر. (Sometimes I dream of going to the sea.)

Let's learn some words that will help you ask for directions in Egyptian Arabic.

هاي الاتجاهات؟ hayy el-etjāhāt? What are the directions?
على يمينك ʿalā yamīnka on your right
على يسارك ʿalā yasārak on your left
مستقيم mustaqīm straight
أنا ضايع ana ḍāyʿ I'm lost.

Dialogue:

  • Person 1: إيه رأيك لو نروح الأهرامات؟ (What do you think if we go to the Pyramids?)
  • Person 2: ما بتخافش تضيع الطريق؟ (Aren't you afraid of getting lost?)
  • Person 1: لأ، أنا حفظت الاتجاهات. (No, I memorized the directions.)

Famous Egyptian Cities[edit | edit source]

Egypt is home to many famous cities that attract tourists from all over the world. Here are some words that will help you learn about them.
