Facts about Cornish[edit | edit source]

Cornish is an Insular Celtic language spoken in Cornwall, United Kingdom (not to be confused with Cornish which is the Breton dialect spoken in Cornouaille, without s, in Brittany).

The language ceased to be transmitted in the 18th century and the last native speakers probably died in the early 19th century. However, Cornish experienced a modern renaissance in the 20th century. There are now books and journals published in Cornish which has once again become a living language with native speakers brought up in contemporary Cornish.
